Where I Play…

Well, I thought it might be time for a few updated photos of the office/sewing/craft room…

I love jars and thread…So this works for me…

No comments are needed on the unopened thread on the right hand side. I am HIGHLY aware that I have issues. LOL.

This is one of my favorite toys…When it is time to use it I simply move the pen caddy and all of the “stuff” I need for this one is just to the right on the shelf next to it. Behind the machine is where my cutting station is now set up.

I love this too……

I forgot to get a picture of my main machine (Babylock) The Juki is fantastic for thick project and the speed is unreal. A real workhorse.

These boxes hold (on the top) all of my floss for hand stitching, embroidery and cross stitch, on the bottom they hold pieces of ongoing projects. The pink boxes on the right hold bag patterns. Yes, I have a few. Don’t ask how many I have actually made, LOL.

You can see part of the cutting area and the shelf that stores rulers and cutters (and the ugly cords, gotta do something about those.). The shelf of notebooks is manuals for the things that need them in my office, LOL.

Part of my latest revamp of my sewing room is that I found I have a NEED for a dedicated space to “deal with” photos and memorabilia. I used to be a scrapbooker. I was a scrapbooker long before most people were digital photographers. I was developing film.  Yeah, well, bottom line is I take a LOT of pictures and I have a few over 10 years worth of actually photos, much of that time I (AHEM!!) planned ahead and got 6 or 8 copies of each photo (the pink thing is actually two pattern cabinets, like you see at Joann’s.  Hubby painted it for me, in MY choice of colors, LOL, and created a solid wood top for the entire thing. The three drawers on the right are completely filled with actual photos.) Yeah. It ain’t pretty. Add to that 20+ reels of slides from my husband’s childhood. I really needed somewhere to set it up and dig through it. So, now it has a spot! It’s very own, dedicated, work station!  Now I have to hunt down a reasonably priced slide/film/photo non flatbed scanner that is Mac compatible and doesn’t cost a fortune. Not asking for much :-) (Seriously open to input here!)

Oh, hmm, betcha think I don’t have any fabric stash, right? OH. OK, you want to SEE that too? REALLY??? Seriously? OK, but I do not expect to see the words “hoarder” or “compulsive shopper” (You know who you are…be nice!) Nor do I want a reference to my attempts to not buy more fabric. Ok, ok….Here ya go…

The above photo is on the left of the walk in closet. Fleece and snuggles on the top. “Collections” (things I bought to go together, not necessarily a designer collection, LOL) under that and my Christmas stash at the bottom. On the right side are fat quarters and “under 3/4 of a yard”.

Above is looking in from the doorway. Top left shelf is collections of projects I would like to make it to the top of my list. Under that (on the left) is panels and stuff that goes with them. The shelf that appears empty on the top right is for my bird quilt project. Under that is solids. Under that is dots and stripes. The rest of that shelving unit is separated by color with a small section of “novelty” fabrics that don’t read one specific color.

OK, there you have it. This is where I love to play!

Thanks for stopping by!!

I am going to link up this week!!

  1. HAHAHA. Hoarder :) But I love you and it looks nice and clean!

  2. Wow! Love your room and thanks for making me take a closer look at your thread! Is it a problem to have unopened thread……fabric…..patterns…..nope I didn’t think so! Thanks for sharing.

  3. Wow Rachel, we’re talkin’ SERIOUS playroom here! How wonderful it must be! Lucky you and thanks for sharing your space with us! I loved seeing where you play.

  4. Wow. That is one very packed room. Mine looks bare by comparision. Now I don’t feel as bad for what I have been buying lately. LOL

  5. Wow, what a great place to create. Thanks for the tour I really liked. Ya, I’m a thread junkie so when I saw all your thread, my body twitched just a little :)

  6. OKAY! That’s a major work (play)room! I’m going to show these pictures to my hubby – he’ll be surprised to see someone has (lots) more stash than I do! And isn’t it great fun to sew in a cleaned organized space? Enjoy!

  7. Rachel, can I move in with you?? LOL……….love your space! I was just trying to decide whether to move some of my stash from the drawers to the big room divider size shelves I built last year but I have photos and magazines and other cute stuff on it so I am torn about taking that down…………I do have a large storage closet I built too where I have plastic containers…..that is probably a better option……….

  8. Oh I am so jealous to have such a room! Right now my baby girl shares a room with my fabric and I sew in our bedroom. I love what you did with your stash closet, very nicely done!

  9. Thank you for sharing your room. Makes me feel a tad less guilty about mine. At the moment mine looks a bit like a thrift store as we are moving things around in the house and every time hubby finds something of mine he dumps it in my room. I am just starting out as a quilter, but have “collected” fabric on and off over the years, so have a fairly good selection to set me off on the right path.
The jars are a great idea for thread and as for the unopened thread, that’s just waiting for the right fabric to come along.

Sorry for the verification, but if I don't use it I won't know who you are!
