Thanksgiving 2012…WOW!
No pictures today
.
As of my last post, Thanksgiving 2012 was going to be very, very low key.
My son and I planned to go for a quick visit to my mother’s house in the morning (getting there early, visit and head home before the over-an-hour drive turned into a 3 or more hour drive) and then just hang out at home. He and I have similar tastes in food so we were going to just have a low key meal that we like.
You see, my husband had to work and my daughter would not be coming home from school. So, just the boy and I.
We were both ok with that. My husband has had the same job, or worked for the same company for over 30 years, him working holidays is nothing new. My daughter only has 4 days off of school at Thanksgiving, since she left for college (she is midway through her Junior year!) so she doesn’t come home for Thanksgiving. She has close family nearby and spends it with them.
I discussed the menu with my boy, and we were all set. Definitely not a traditional Thanksgiving meal
On Thanksgiving Eve Joey and his friend A wanted to go to their mutual friend JB’s house. JB’s mom is a friend of mine and I knew she wouldn’t care…SO off they went. They planned to be home by midnight.
Around 11 I was tired…So I let Joey know I was going to bed. He was a little put out that I wouldn’t wait up for him (which is a little uncharacteristic for him)…
At around 11:30 I heard him coming in the door and he came into my room to tell me he “Thought one of his friends might have been confused that my truck was his truck because they “messed” with it” When I asked what they had done he simply said he couldn’t describe it, I would have to come see it (Hello? I am in my warm, cozy bed, seriously??)
After a minute or two I got out of bed and headed downstairs…opened the front door and MY DAUGHTER WAS ON THE FRONT PORCH!!!!!!! Nothing wrong with my car, lol.
Yes, they totally GOT me. 100% shocked. Happy doesn’t even start to explain the feeling, LOL…
Apparently she had planned this since early summer…and the boy knew all about it. Instead of going to JB’s house Joey and A had gone to the airport to pick her up.
For those of you who don’t know me, in person, I am REALLY hard to surprise. This was total. Complete. I am still surprised. It was SO great.
Needless to say, her grandparents came to dinner and it is amazing what you can throw together the morning of…LOL, while turkey still didn’t make an appearance (ham did) we managed to get a lot of the traditional sides whipped up…
I can honestly say that it was THE best surprise! I was so shocked I barely remembered to take pictures and what I did take I am not posting
. This is one of those things that will live in my heart forever.
Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving too!
