Update…

Yeah, it’s been a while…

I have lots of reasons I won’t bore you with, but they run along the lines of lazy, loss of motivation, a road block and fun stuff like that!

However, I actually learned a lot about myself during this time…So, not necessarily in order, here is what I have been up to.

I finished this little one…

Pattern by Homespun Elegance

Bits & Pieces, “Summer Fun”

I changed a few of the colors, slightly.

I also opted to stick the sheep’s body in x’s.

The pattern calls for a satin stitch, but I had some silk thread I wanted to experiment with.

I have a fabulous start on this one…..

“Northwind”

Pattern by Silver Creek Samplers

I definitely did some color changes. I am also using a “brighter” fabric than the pattern calls for.

Look at that face! I just LOVE it! The pattern calls for filling the cloud in. I am not sure if I will or not. Waiting until I have the entire piece on there to decide :-)

I have these kitted up and ready to start!

And this. This is my lesson. Someone told someone, who told someone that I quilted…and that I had done some custom quilts….

Long story short, the gal wanted a quilt made from her first born’s clothing…

It is certainly not the quilt’s fault, nor the lady who wanted the quilt.

It is square on my shoulders.

The quilt actually came out really well. When you consider I had never done anything like this before, LOL.

However, I did not like making it. This is definitely NOT the kind of quilting I prefer…SO, hopefully the next time someone asks I will remember this and give them a friend’s number, LOL.

I think the bottom line is actually pretty simple…I quilt and stitch because I enjoy creating something for my self or a loved one. I do not enjoy doing what I have been told to do. Story of my life? LOL

There, now that I am a little caught up (LOL) I hope I will be motivated to get back with my SAL and FOF updates. I am considering just call Friday my update day :-)

  1. Some lovely finishes, Rachel. Love the Wind’s face.! And I know exactly what you mean about making things you don’t enjoy……when people find out I quilt and create one of their first statements is, “You could sell them and make money!” To which I reply….”then it wouldn’t be fun anymore…I would be WORK”………..

  2. Great job Rachel! On everything including this post! ;) I’m looking forward to next week! :)

  3. Love the Blackbird Inn cross stitch. Can’t wait to see it all stitched up! I spy something strawberry blonde!!! Might it be my father holding up the baby quilt? LOL
    xoxo Kim

  4. Whoa! There have been a lot of stitches taking place. I am totally in love with what you have done and what you have planned. And as for the lesson, I hope I can learn from yours! I tend to put myself in similar situations and generally begrudge the project in the end.

  5. Your stitching is beautiful!

It looks like the quilt did turn out despite not being so fun for you. Glad it’s over!

  6. Ah, there you are! Loving all your stitches! Looking forward to the Northwind finish. Great planned stitches coming up too. That’s quite the interesting quilt. I don’t think I’d have liked making that either. But you did a fabulous job with it! It’s quite unique in my eyes…in a very good way!

  7. I love the cloud too. I vote for not filling it in. I love that you are doing so much stitching. I haven’t done much of that myself lately but I did pull out a bunch of projects to work on during the upcoming summer trips. The quilt did turn out great despite you not enjoying the process. Seeing what you incorporated into it, I can understand why it was tough. At least now I know that if someone asks me to do something like this I should say no thank you.

  8. Glad to see you back to posting again! I, also, LOVE the North Wind pattern. What color are you supposed to use to fill in the cloud’s face? I rather like it the way it is. But then I don’t do much stitching, so what do I know! ; )

I don’t quilt for others. Period. It’s my hobby, my rules. If someone wants to buy something I’ve made when I’m finished, I will discuss it, but I don’t customize. Grumpy, aren’t I?

  9. I love your North wind but I wouldn’t fill him in. One because I’m lazy but two because you may squash the blue stitches and make them stand out less.
I only do comissions if I get to choose the piece I’m stitching!

  10. Your stitching is beautiful! I particularly love the CCS one !!!
Thanks so much for loving my works :) I sent you an e-amail :)

Sorry for the verification, but if I don't use it I won't know who you are!
